Carphone Warehouse to launch 4G operator in Ireland

Carphone Warehouse has announced it will launch a new mobile phone operator in the Irish market next year. The virtual operator will use the newly-created networks of 3 Ireland and O2. The announcement follows a regulatory agreement to allow 3 Ireland to purchase O2 Ireland.

Peter Scott, managing director of Carphone Warehouse Ireland, said the company would launch the mobile operator within the next 12 months with the new partnership with Three opening up 'an exciting new chapter' for Carphone and its Irish customers.

'Carphone Warehouse has always prided itself in offering our customers the most up-to-the-minute technology and connectivity together with world-class customer service.' The company looks forward to demonstrating this expertise to develop a mobile service that customers will love, he said.

'It allows us to expand our business and create 50 new jobs in a continued challenging retail environment.' The new business will create 50 positions in finance, IT, marketing, sales and technology.

Robert Finnegan, CEO of Three Ireland, welcomed Carphone to the Irish mobile market saying the news further reinforces how Three's acquisition of O2 Ireland will revitalise the Irish telecoms market.

'Three will build a state-of-the-art 4G network over the next three years, delivering very real benefits to customers in urban and rural areas throughout the country, from which Carphone Warehouse customers will also benefit.'

The new 'virtual' operator, which has yet to be named, will use the newly-combined networks of 3 Ireland and O2 Ireland. The new entity is expected to create 50 new Irish jobs in marketing, finance, IT, sales and technology. The company already employs 700 people in Ireland across its 91 stores and main Dublin office. - See more at: http://www.independent.ie/business/technology/carphone-warehouse-is-to-launch-4g-operator-here-30402781.html#sthash.8rWiddyP.dpuf
