Global sales of electronic devices will reach 2.4 billion units this year, with the mobile segment leading the way, a new report by Gartner has revealed.
With devices covering the categories of PCs, tablets and mobile phones, Gartner said mobile phones sales are expected to reach 1.9 billion units this year, up 3.1%, with smartphones accounting for two-thirds of the figure.
Google Android will represent around half of all smartphone sales - 1.16 billion, said Gartner. Meanwhile, the report stated that Windows devices will account for 333 million sales and Apple's iOS and MacOS will total 271 million sales.
Analysts at Gartner said that growth in the tablet market would slow to 23.9% this year - around half of what it was last year. The PC market will decline by 2.9% from a 9.5% drop in 2013.
Ranjit Atwal, analyst at Gartner, said the current performance in PC sales is being helped by upgrades and replacements of older devices. 'This year, we anticipate nearly 60 million professional PC replacements in mature markets,' he said.
The survey predicts that tablet sales will overtake personal computers by 2015.
