Customers of mobile carrier Orange received numerous unwanted text messages over the weekend. The messages referred to the Magic Numbers service where customers can avail of free calls to nominated Orange mobile and Orange Broadband Wireless and Talk numbers. Some customers complained of receiveing more than a dozen messages on the service each day.
The Orange service is operated by EE. Following the complaints, Miles, a EE's community team member, posted the following message on an internet forum.
'Unfortunately we're having an issue with the text message service that reminds people they are eligible to add another magic number. This reminder should only be sent once, but some customers are getting multiple reminders.'
It continued, 'If you've received any of these duplicate messages, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience. Remember: you're not charged to receive magic number reminders.'
A spokesperson for Orange told Mobile, 'We’re sorry that some Orange customers are receiving duplicate reminder texts about Orange Magic Numbers. This is being caused by a technical error which we’re working hard to fix.'
