Facebook’s mobile users pass 1 billion

Facebook has revealed that 1.07 billion mobile users are now using the social network. The company said it now makes 62% of its advertising revenue from mobile.

With 654 million mobile daily active users on average, the figures represent an increase of 39% year-on-year. The social media platform said that daily active users reached 829 million on average at the end of June, a jump of 19% on last year's numbers.

The news comes as the company reported US$2.91bn in revenues and earnings per share of 42 cents in its second quarter, beating analyst expectations of 32 cents a share on $2.81bn in revenue.

Compared to the same quarter a year ago, Facebook's revenues increased by around 60% as profits doubled. The company's share price hit an all-time high of $74 in after-hours trading.

'We had a good second quarter,' said Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook. 'We see a lot of opportunity ahead as we connect the rest of the world.'
