Mobile phone operator Vodafone has said it is ready to compete in the UK 'quad-play' space. The company said it is ready for the move into the consumer area of mobile, fixed-line telephony, broadband and television services, even if the market is not developed yet.
Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao told investors at the firm's annual shareholders meeting: 'Real quadruple-play has not yet started in the U.K. Of course we expect it to start and we are working [on] our options.'
He continued, 'Vodafone will not be out of that market if that market develops'.
When he was asked if Vodafone will join up with another operator to build a quad-play offering, Colao did not comment.
Operators such as British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC and BT already offer 'triple-play' consumer services, but they are not mobile-related.
BT will launch a consumer mobile service as part of a bundled package by next April.
