John Doughty, former Brightstar 20:20 distribution chief, has joined accessories manufacturer Tech21 as commercial director, Mobile has learnt.
The newly created role sees Doughty reporting to Tech21 CEO Jason Roberts. His brief is to drive the business into new markets and build its customer base.
Tech21 specialises in making protective cases for mobiles, tablets and laptops. The UK company is based in Eel Pie Island in London.
The company is known for its pioneering use of non-Newtonian polymers to create highly protective cases. It is attributed with having established a new industry standard in impact protection for mobile phones, tablets and laptops, offering military grade protection.
Doughty brings considerable experience to Tech21 having a long track record in the distribution industry. Following stints at Tech Data UK, Brightstar, Avenir and Micro-P, in May last year Doughty returned to Brightstar where he took the role of head of distribution for Europe and played a key role in the US distribution giant’s purchase of 20:20 Mobile, which resulted in the creation of one of the UK’s largest distributors, Brightstar 20:20.
Tech21 has dealings with a wide range of UK distributors and retailers as well as supplying cases to the European market.
