Latest research on mobile network performance has revealed how UK call quality now stands at an impressive 98.87%. The nationwide survey was carried out by Spirent Communications between April and June. It measured the quality of voice calls and speed of data sessions across the UK.
The survey tested the UK's mobile operators on their performance for voice calls and data connectivity using a 4G device with testing involving a sample of 10,000 voice calls, and 10,000 minutes of data connections. The results revealed that O2 came joint first place in 17 of the 20 cities for voice call performance and came out on top across 11 of the 20 cities tested for 4G data speed.
Each city was checked for the presence of 4G and its performance by each operator. The data performance category covered measuring speeds and success in both 3G and 4G services and included web download, file upload and download and an overall speed metric. O2 came out the highest performer for 4G data in Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Bradford, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Leicester, Coventry, Wakefield, Nottingham and Newcastle.
'Today we released the high level findings of the study and Telefonica O2's standing in this study,' said Jeff Atkins, director of marketing, service experience at Spirent.
Speaking on the results, Adrian Di Meo, CTO of Telefónica UK, said, 'The results of this survey show that our commitment and investment to build a bigger and stronger network is succeeding, but we won’t rest on our laurels.'
He continued, 'As we continue rolling out of our 4G network and modernising our 2G and 3G services, we will be investing £1.5bn over the next three years to deliver even faster speeds and greater coverage across the UK.'
