Nokia hunts Asian replicas
Nokia has taken legal action against two Chinese handset manufacturers, claiming that they have copied the design of its 7260 handset for products sold under their own brands.
The manufacturers facing legal action are Shenzhen Telsda Mobile Communication Industry Developing Co. Ltd and Song Xun Da Zhong Ke Electronic (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. Nokia wants the companies to cease manufacturing and selling the handsets in question and pay damages.
Many Asian manufacturers use designs that are derivative of well-known handsets already on the market. Phones bearing an uncanny resemblance to particularly expensive or well-known designs often find their way onto the market at a substantially cut price.
‘This action is part of Nokia’s continuous efforts to protect its brand value and proprietary designs against infringers,’ Nokia said in a statement.
