EE to buy 80 Phones 4u stores and retain staff, says source

EE is looking to buy around 80 Phones 4u stores, a source close to EE told Mobile.

The operator is expected to target Phones 4u’s key high street locations across the UK. The source said the operator will also retain existing staff in all the stores the operator acquires.

The news closely follows Phones 4u’s announcement yesterday that it had gone into administration following EE and Vodafone’s decisions not to renew their trading relationship with the retailer next year. EE’s exit followed that of Vodafone which informed Phones 4u last month it would not renew its contract in february next year.

The source said: ‘EE will not buy all of Phones 4u’s estate but it will acquire a few stores, in the tens , not the hundreds and it will keep on all the staff in those stores. It’s expected to be around 80 stores.’

EE declined to comment.
