EU hit back at roaming ‘misinformation’
The EU has hit back at accusations that the Italian Presidency had sought to delay the body’s efforts to end roaming charges. The organisation has issued a statement which said: ‘some people seem to have wrong impressions about the timeline and status [of the attempts to end roaming charges]…There is no delay!’
The statement explained that the Italians were not suggesting a delay to ending roaming charges, but were instead trying to move the other elements of the package forward as details of how to end roaming were worked out.
The European body said that all three EU institutions including the Commission, Parliament and national governments agreed on the need to end roaming charges and would soon begin negotiations on the details of how to end them. The EU said that they expect the negotiations to be completed in 2014.
