A report commissioned by Samsung UK + Ireland titled ‘The Samsung Smart Society Barometer’ claims that the UK could lose £9.25bn over the next 12 months ‘unless smart technology growth is accelerated’. The report describes the benefits of further embracing smart technology in the next 12 months.
After surveying 1,000 UK businesses, Samsung identified a potential average saving of £81,000 per business if smart technology was applied across every process. The report claims the main restraining factors for companies are budget issues (55%), IT Department resource strain (31%) and time restraints (31%).
From 88% of respondents feeling smart technology would give them a competitive advantage to increased employee and customer satisfaction (86% and 88% respectively), the report suggests a correlation between technology and efficiency.
The President of Samsung UK + Ireland, Andy Griffiths suggests embracing smart technology will also make us ‘more productive in pursuit of a better quality of life.’
However, other technology professionals and economists remain undecided. Pew Research in August 2014 revealed 48% felt implementation of new technology would cause increased unemployment while 52%felt job creation from the new technology would offset losses within the year.
