The first ever P3 Communications Mobile Benchmarking UK test has shown EE as the clear winner, receiving the ‘best in test’ seal from the German firm.
The test, the first of what is set to become an annual series, ranked Three as second overall, followed by O2 and then Vodafone. EE had the best results for data while Three had the highest score for voice performance. The results for Vodafone and O2 were very close, with O2 just edging its competitor thanks to a better data performance.
Telephony and data services were both tested by the benchmarking firm, with the results broken down into big cities, small cities and transfers between the two.
P3 said that the results were based on several weeks of intense testing using two specifically equipped cars that took 16,000 test samples while travelling around the UK. The areas covered by the testing vehicles amounted to around 13m people or 20% of the UK’s population.
Peter Seidenberg, Managing Director of P3 communications, said: ‘Comparing the UK results with other P3 mobile benchmarks in Europe and Australia makes it clear that much better performances are achievable. But the good news for all UK mobile customers is that the newest technology potentially provides for far more capability than is currently implemented. We expect to see significant improvements by the time the next testing cycle begins.’
