Doro reveals plans for tablet launch
Doro has revealed that it will be launching a tablet – the manufacturer also told Mobile that it is aiming to press on in the smartphone market. UK and Ireland MD Chris Millington (pictured) told Mobile that the company would be using its smartphone expertise to push the product: ‘We plan to launch a tablet in 2015, it will have all the features that make our phones great. It’s part of a number of new things that we are going to be trying in the new year. We are constantly seeking feedback from our customers and looking for new ways to do things.
‘In 2015 we are also aiming to break into the smartphone market in a major way. It can be a challenge convincing people of the value of our market segment. We are finding that operators are coming round to the idea that Doro smartphones can sell on contract. We are showing that the perception that old people don’t pay for contracts is untrue. Getting people on board at the start is always a challenge, but once they see how popular these phones can be they are soon convinced of their value.’
Doro had a very busy Christmas from a marketing perspective, running a number of complementary campaigns in tandem, as Millington explained: ‘We have been running TV and digital banner adverts; the combination of the two works really well. We have seen a lot of activity related to this and we are planning more advertising along the same lines. It’s all about being targeted and selective in what we do.’
The brand has big plans for the new year, and like others in the industry is looking at the potential that lies in services: ‘We have a lot of plans for next year in terms of connectivity; we are working on some very innovative ways of using social media to connect people. We have been looking at services as well, there are a number of different service propositions that we are developing and you can expect us to launch something at some point in 2015.’
