Gav Thompson departs Telefonica for

Gav Thompson, former global director of business innovation at Telefonica, has joined customer engagement company as chief marketing officer.

Thompson, who founded O2 MVNO giffgaff, will be responsible for the strategic direction of the brand, the go-to-market execution and driving the entire global marketing operation.

The appointment comes as intensifies its drive to scale the brand and broaden the impact of the company’s One Engagement Hub. The Hub ties together customer insight, context and journey behaviour to help clients market to customers in a much more personal way.

Thompson brings over 20 years of experience to, having worked with major global consumer brands including Guinness, PlayStation, Toyota, 3, Absolut, Pepsi, FedEx, Bacardi and O2.
Whilst at O2, Thompson founded MVNO giffgaff which was aimed at O2’s digitally literate consumers. He has also worked at advertising and creative agencies, Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, BBDO New York, TBWA & Publicis.
