BlackBerry rubbishes reports of Samsung buyout

BlackBerry has gone public to deny reports that Samsung had made an offer for the manufacturer.

There had been reports in several media outlets that discussions had taken place with Reuters claiming that Samsung would be willing to pay as much as $7.5bn in order to gain access to BlackBerry’s patent portfolio.

In a statement, BlackBerry said: ‘BlackBerry is aware of certain press reports published today with respect to a possible offer by Samsung to purchase BlackBerry. BlackBerry has not engaged in discussions with Samsung with respect to any possible offer to purchase BlackBerry. BlackBerry’s policy is not to comment on rumours or speculation, and accordingly it does not intend to comment further.’

Many have predicted that 2015 will be another tough year for BlackBerry. Recently, challenger brand Kazam told Mobile it believed the manufacturer space was on the brink of ‘seismic shift’ from ‘creaking giants’ to ‘dynamic start-ups’
