Reports link Three’s owners with £9bn O2 takeover
Three’s owners Hutchinson Whampoa are eyeing a £9bn acquisition of O2, according to reports.
O2’s owners Telefonica were in talks with BT over the potential sale of O2 before Christmas, but the media giant ultimately chose to enter an exclusivity agreement with EE.
Ever since BT displayed an interest in purchasing a mobile operator the industry has been awash with takeover talk. There have been rumours about Vodafone, Talk Talk and Virgin Media as well as Three, O2 and EE.
The need for O2 to find a buyer has increased in the wake of BT’s decision to pursue the acquisition of EE and Three have been linked for a while as a possible buyer.
