‘Simple approach’ sees Three increase customers in 2014

Three UK has explained that a focus on ‘value’ rather than ‘price’ helped the brand add 478,000 new customers in 2014 and saw its earnings (EBIT) grow to £314m for the year.

Reacting to the results the operator’s CEO Dave Dyson said: ‘2014 was a good year for Three, as the smallest operator I was very pleased in how we did. We continued to focus on value as opposed to price. We have a simple approach listen to what customers want and try and deliver it.’

The network now has 8.4 million customers at the year-end 2014, with its CFO saying that the brand was interested in growth margin as well as improvements in customer numbers.

Dyson also briefly addressed the discussions between Telefonica and Hutchison Whampoa over the latter’s purchase of O2, saying: ‘Discussions are ongoing with Telefonica that is all I can say at this stage.’

When asked about the possibility of more spectrum becoming available as a result of a deal between BT And EE the Three CEO said that the network would be interested in acquiring more: ‘Spectrum is the lifeblood of any operator we have around 10% of what’s currently out there as we carry 45% of the data traffic clearly we need to increase the amount of spectrum we have.’

Three saw average data usage per customer grow to 3.3GB per month from 2.0GB in December 2013.
