MWC News: HTC goes for more than the flagship

HTC has used Mobile World Congress to launch a number of new products alongside its flagship the HTC ‘One M9’ device. As well as the M9 the manufacturer presented a wearable; the HTC ‘re Grip’ and a VR headset; the HTC 'Vive’.

President Peter Chao took to the stage in Barcelona’s Olympic park to announce the three products and to say why he thought HTC’s latest flagship stood out: ’We don’t compromise on the design, to give you that beauty, that premium. We really polished this, what is amazing is that for the first time we have created a two tone finished on a single metal unibody design. The M9 is so beautiful it takes the experience of premium to the next level.’

The two other HTC products launched by HTC come in collaboration with other brands; the wearable with Under Armour and the VR headset with software firm Valve.

Chao explained he felt partnerships had been key to HTC’s previous innovations: ’At HTC we’re proud to have led smartphone innovation, we worked with Microsoft for the first smartphone and Google for the first Android phone. As we continue to innovate we seek new partners to work with today we extend our partnership with Under Armour, we want to innovate when it comes to health of fitness products. Virtual reality will change the way in which we interact with the world, it will become a mainstream experience and we are working with Valve to make that happen.’
