ZTE inks deal with BT TV arm
ZTE has struck a deal with BT Movio to provide a 3G and DAB-IP (Digital Audio Broadcast Internet Protocol) handset that will support mobile TV over DAB service.
The deal follows one between BT's entertainment distribution arm and Virgin to provide TV services via its Lobster handset.
While Virgin has opted to support DAB, manufacturers such as Nokia are keen to push DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast Handheld) as the standard for Mobile TV. Other operators have chosen to transmit mobile TV over 3G, although this means inferior quality and a phone tied up in data calls whenever the service is used.
No details of the handset itself were revealed and BT Movio said it expected to have the handset in the new year.
