Samsung UK to reduce number of mobile & IT distributors

Samsung UK is set to reduce the number of distributors it works with allowing it to ‘develop deeper relationships with partners that share Samsung’s long term vision for the brand and its focused sell-out strategy.’

The manufacturer is set to carry out a full review its Information technology & Mobile Communications (IM) distribution partners as part of changes made by recently appointed UK and Ireland mobile and IT by VP Conor Pierce.

Pierce told Mobile at Mobile World Congress of his intentions to look at the brands existing distribution relationships: ‘I think we need to constantly assess how we engage with the market, especially now as we are really looking at a way to sell out rather than just volume selling and that will put a lot of dependencies on our distribution partners because they also need to change their way. It’s an important part of my market assessment and my Samsung assessment.’

The brand said that existing Samsung IM distributors including Ingram Micro, Exertis UK, Data Select, Tech Data Mobile, West Coast (tablets only) and Brightstar 20:20 had been invited to tender with the review outcome being announced in June.  In the interim it will remain business as usual for the IM distributor channel programme.

Samsung announced that a review of the mobile and IT accessories business as part of a separate tender process to distributors. The company said that as with the mobile and tablet tender, the aim of this is to streamline the distribution channel creating a smaller base of distribution partners, moving from six to four that will work closely with Samsung on its long term goals for accessories.

Commenting on the tender Conor Pierce, Vice President IT & Mobile at Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland said: ‘Now is the time to refocus our energies on creating a strong future for the IM brand. Once the tender is completed we will have the right distribution landscape in place that will help us deliver against our ambitious business goals in 2015 and in the future.’
