Vodafone UK has launched a new broadband and home phone service, Vodafone Connect.
Vodafone Connect will be aimed primarily at existing UK mobile customers, who will receive broadband and fixed line services for a £5 monthly add on, including 300 minutes to mobile numbers. Vodafone has stated that customers will also receive a ‘Sure Signal unit’ to ‘boost indoor mobile coverage’.
The launch sees Vodafone take a step further into the quad play market, with the CEO Jeroen Hoencamp announcing that the network will move into offering TV services this year.
He said: ‘This is a really exciting move for Vodafone in the UK as we move our business into a new phase. We’re looking forward to bringing our consumer customers the benefits of our experience in providing fixed and mobile services, both here in the UK and elsewhere around the world.
‘Our significant investment is creating hundreds of new jobs over the next couple of years. We are looking forward to the year ahead including our move into offering TV services, as one which will prove to be a step-change in our customers’ lives.’
The new broadband service will be coupled with a mobile app that will enable the user to ‘boost’ or ‘beam’ WiFi signal to compatible devices. Vodafone has stated that customers will be able to use these two features to ‘supercharge’ devices, increasing coverage in areas of the home that may experience low signal exposure.
Vodafone Connect will initially be rolled out to existing customers in Manchester, Berkshire, Surrey and part of Hampshire, with Essex, Hertfordshire and Yorkshire to follow in the coming weeks. The service will be available to the rest of Vodafone’s customer base in the summer and will include new customers ‘later in the year’.
