New Treo in the pipeline
Palm, which has had no UK presence since the plug was pulled on the Treo 650 earlier this month, is to launch a new smartphone handset later this year.
It has announced a partnership with Vodafone aimed at promoting push email. Palm is yet to release specific details on the handset, but it will operate on Vodafone's 3G network and support Windows Mobile. It will be available exclusively on Vodafone.
The only model Palm currently supplies to the UK, the Treo 650, is being phased out. It had an import ban slapped on it from 1 July after it failed to meet new European safety standards. The Treo 650 is being sold by Orange and O2 until stock runs dry.
Roy Bedlow, Palm's Vice President for the EMEA region confirmed that the company had decided to phase out the 650 rather than bring it up to safety standards 'to make way for better models'.
