High street round up: Vodafone gets contract boost
Vodafone has made a major splash on this week's contract tracker thanks to a slew of strong deals offered by the high street multiples.
The operator's 18-month Anytime 350 deal has rocketed up to number four, while its 12-month sibling finds itself on position 16.
The operator's renewed fortunes on the contract market have been helped in no small part by the Carphone Warehouse. The retailer is currently bundling the LG Chocolate on Vodafone Anytime 350 with 10 month's free line rental. The overwhelmingly popular Sony Ericsson W810i is being connected on Vodafone Anytime 275, also with 10 month's free line rental. Phones 4U and The Link are also reporting strong sales of its Anytime 500 and 350 tariffs respectively.
The Carphone Warehouse's deals are significantly cheaper than what is offered by competing retailers and the other networks, signifying renewed interest from the operator after it slashed commissions earlier in the year to focus on direct sales.
Separately, Sony Ericsson's K800i is now the top-selling contract device at both Phones 4U and the Carphone Warehouse. The former is bundling the device on 3's Video, Talk and Text 1100 tariff while the latter is using O2's new 35 tariff to drive sales.
