Dixons Carphone has entered into an agreement with Sprint to open a number of Sprint-branded stores in the US.
The collaboration between the Connected Word Services (CWS) division and the US operator will initially see the UK retailer open and manage 20 stateside retail stores. The joint venture will see Dixons Carphone provide Sprint with mobile phone retail expertise, with both parties to progress to a second phase should this initial venture prove successful.
The second phase arrangement will see both companies equally invest $32m to rollout 500 stores. This extended agreement would also see the UK company take on a ‘know-how sharing arrangement’ with Sprint, supporting its whole estate.
Marcelo Claure, Sprint CEO, explained that the US company are looking to work this ‘know how’ to their advantage, with plans to leverage Dixon Carphone’s position as a ‘leading wireless retailer’. This position is one that Andrew Harrison, CEO of CWS, looks to expand across the pond. He explained that this agreement marks a ‘significant step’ for the company’s US growth.
He said: ‘This is a very exciting venture for us, and is a significant step in growing our CWS business in the US. We bring specialist knowledge and skills to this partnership and will be looking to deliver innovation and outstanding customer service under the Sprint brand.’
