Dixons Carphone expects to stock Apple Watch by Christmas
Dixons Carphone’s CEO Sebastian James has revealed that the retailer expects to be selling the Apple Watch by Christmas.
Speaking at a media roundtable for Dixons Carphone’s preliminary 2014/2015 results James, said: ‘We hope to sell the Apple Watch with some distribution soon, we’ll hopefully be selling it by Christmas. I think it’s a very interesting category, we’re in the first generation and there is so much that has to happen.’
Deputy CEO Andrew Harrison echoed the sentiment, adding that the wider context of technological change was encouraging these new categories: ‘There’s so many things going on, such as the integration of paper systems into the tube network through Oyster. There will be developments that are going to dramatically change people’s lives in ways that everyone would have found strange a few years ago. Stuff like ordering a cab on your mobile phone has crept up on us and is now standard.’
Commenting on the launch of Apple Pay, James explained that because of the £20 limit, it didn’t make sense for the retailer to offer the service at present, but they will monitor the situation. He said: ‘We’re watching it with interest we’re always interested in giving customers new ways to pay.’
