Apple has expanded the US distribution of the Apple Watch, with the manufacturer revealing that electronics retailer Best Buy will be stocking the wearable.
The news bodes well for UK technology retailers hoping to sell the device before Christmas. Dixons Carphone’s CEO Sebastian James recently revealed that he expected to be stocking the Apple Watch by the festive period.
Speaking at a media roundtable for Dixons Carphone’s preliminary 2014/2015 results James, said: ‘We hope to sell the Apple Watch with some distribution soon, we’ll hopefully be selling it by Christmas. I think it’s a very interesting category, we’re in the first generation and there is so much that has to happen.’
Apple initially chose to pursue a direct strategy at the launch of the Apple Watch. But this latest move demonstrates that the brand is now branching out.
Apple has made units available in a handful of high-end boutiques and department stores including Colette in Paris, Dover Street Market in London and Tokyo, and Selfridges in London.
The deal with Best Buy will see more than 100 stores carrying the wearable, which will also be available on BestBuy.com. A further 200 stores will have the Apple Watch in time for Christmas.
