Virgin Media adds 7K subscribers in a steady quarter

Virgin Media added 7,000 new mobile subscribers for the second quarter of 2015.

The results are an improvement on Q1’s 45,700 drop in customer numbers the total of which now stands at just over 3 million.

The quad play brand is owned by media giant Liberty Global and recorded steady financials across the board for the quarter.

Virgin Media claimed that its Freestyle proposition had helped add 36,000 postpaid customers. The offer enables customers to purchase a handset independent of the mobile airtime contract, in a similar way to O2’s Refresh scheme. The success of the offer means it will be introduced to other European markets later this year.

There was an 0.4% improvement in the company’s mobile Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) which Virgin Media explained as being thanks to ‘improvements that were supported by price rises and higher revenue from mobile handset sales’.
