Samsung shows MP3 downloads in seconds with new technology
Samsung has demonstrated a new technology capable of downloading mp3 files in seconds.
The demo of the first European version of WiMAX was given at the mobile industry's trade show 3GSM.
The manufacturer claims its 'Wave 2' system is up to two times faster than current 3G technology, and that users can download an MP3 file in under a second, and a movie in under three minutes.
It debuted two WiMAX enabled handsets; the SPH P9000 and the M8100 in Barcelona. WiMax is similar to WiFi as a technology, and has been hailed by the likes of Virgin Media has having the potential to turn the industry upside down.
WiMAX has however had its critics at the event. In his keynote speech at the event, head of Vodafone Arun Sarin said he did not believe it was ready for 'prime time' yet.
He acknowledged that WiMAX is an interesting idea, but said that to get 'all puffy and excited about it today is too much, too soon'.
