i-mode range strengthened to lift sales
O2 has added four new handsets to its I-mode lineup, hoping that a larger range of devices will help boost sales of the service.
An I-mode enabled variant of Motorola's L6 is already on sale from the operator, while the Motorola L7, Samsung S401i and LG L343i will be available later this month.
O2's Motorola L7 has been upgraded to carry a 1.3 megapixel camera together with Bluetooth and expandable memory, marking a step up from the specifications of the non-I-mode variant. The Samsung and LG handsets both feature VGA cameras and Bluetooth but no memory card slots.
The L7 will cost around £130 on prepay, while the LG and Samsung handsets will sell for around £100 each. The L6 currently costs £70.
An upgraded and i-mode exclusive variant of the popular L7 may prove a boon for genuine i-mode sales, following reports that retailers have connected large volumes of non I-mode handsets to O2's deals due to the richer commission packages on offer.
