O2's Q3 results: We won’t change our formula

O2 will not change its strategy following Q3 growth, CEO Ronan Dunne and CFO Mark Evans have told Mobile.

Speaking after the operator recorded another quarter of increased customer numbers, both of the businesses leading figures said there were no plans to change the brands approach.

Evans told Mobile that the commercial performance couldn’t be matched by its rivals: ‘We feel it’s a winning formula that’s why you don’t see a fundamental changes in strategy because let’s face it; O2 has grown its base six quarters in a row no other operator can even come close to those figures. And we’ve had 12 quarters in a row of improved revenue performance. Why would you change the formula?’

Ronan Dunne added that he felt the performance in the postpaid market demonstrated the brand’s strength: ‘If you’ve got a winning formula and you keep doing it, you shouldn’t apologise for winning.

‘We’ve always given prepaid customers a fair deal, we gave them the first ever loyalty programme for prepaid in the market and we offered them the same value as when you go on contract. So one of the things that we haven’t had is that washing machine effect of people moving to get the right offer.

‘Our prepay base has been growing whilst the rest of the market is in decline. So in that respect I think that the one thing that particularly differentiates us from a proposition point of view is how well we’ve looked after prepaid customers.’
