EE scales up connected product range with clip-on wearable

EE has bolstered its connected product range with the launch of its 4GEE Capture Cam.

The network’s new clip-on wearable marks its latest push forward with its connected strategy, following on from the launch of its 4GEE Action Cam earlier this year, enabling users to broadcast HD content live.

4G connected range

EE’s latest device sees the network continue to add to its range of connected products, offering the Capture Cam to target the lower end of the consumer market. Starting at £129.99 for pay as you go customers, the device will look to focus on users that may have been previously put off by the 4GEE Action Cam’s £299.99 price tag.

The network’s approach to target both ends of the connected market follows comments by EE CEO Olaf Swantee to move beyond mobile.

Swantee explained at the launch of the Action Cam that the network would look to tap into the connected individual segment of the market, claiming it was one of the fastest growing areas. The network explained at its Q2 results earlier this year that its Connected strategy was ‘starting to deliver’.

EE has explained that its Capture Cam is the next step in approaching the connected space, claiming that it will build on this range in the coming year.

Niche market

While the network said the device can be used to ‘stream a family member or a friend’s wedding’, Sunetra Chakravarti, editor of Mobile Choice, explained the use case may be more niche. She said: ‘The cam will be lapped up by extreme sports enthusiasts who would want to capture and transmit live feed of their latest daredevilry. The pricing is also keener than the first iteration.’
