EE owners Orange in French consolidation talks
EE’s current owners Orange have revealed that they are in talks with French network Bouygues Telecom over a potential merger.
Orange has operated the EE joint venture with T-Mobile for the past 6 years, before deciding to sell the business to BT in late 2014.
The deal represents another example of the network operator consolidation which is sweeping across Europe in recent years. The European Commission is examining a number of merger’s in the mobile markets at present including the proposed takeover of O2 by Three’s owners Hutchison Whampoa.
Swantee steps down
The news comes shortly after it was revealed that EE CEO Olaf Swantee would stand down from his post as CEO once the takeover from BT has been completed.
Swantee will be replaced by Mark Allera once the UK’s largest network has been bought by BT.
