The first episode of a six-part documentary series following the Shop Idol competition hits BBC Two’s screens for the first time on Tuesday 19 January.
The show, which is called Phone Shop Idol, follows the iSellMobile competition and its competitors from every major UK retailer as they battle their way from the entry stage, through mystery shops, interviews and challenges, all the way to the big reveal at last year’s Mobile Industry Awards.
Debra Doran, managing director at Noble House Media, which launched the competition 12 years ago, said: ‘The iSellMobile team decided that the documentary was an excellent opportunity to showcase the high standards that exist among retail store staff. Also, I believe that this documentary series will help to ensure that mobile retail – which is at the heart of every high street and shopping centre in the UK – gets the positive attention it deserves.’
Describing the upcoming episodes, the BBC said: ‘This highly entertaining six-part, characterful series follows the ups and downs of Britain’s mobile phone sales force as they battle it out in Shop Idol, a prestigious annual industry competition, which scours all corners of the UK to find the best mobile phone salesperson in the country.’
The show, which could attract up to three million viewers per episode, coincides with a CALL FOR ENTRIES for the 2016 edition of the Shop Idol competition, which although not being filmed, is expected to attract the brightest and best candidates from all the top retailers again this year.
