Ice from O2
O2 will launch a new own-brand handset named the Ice this autumn, in a bid to win over fashion-conscious customers.
The operator says the 14mm slim barphone was designed ‘specifically for O2’. It boasts a 1.3 megapixel camera, onboard music player, expandable memory and 32MB of internal storage. While hardly revolutionary, the feature set is impressive considering the handset’s modest price tag of £99 on prepay.
O2 is also keen to push the handset’s video calling and video download functionality, as well as the quick and easy 3G access to O2 Active portal. While prepay users aren’t traditionally regarded as high-spending users, the operator hopes that the Ice’s full 3G features combined with its relatively low price will encourage uptake of its download services.
