Wileyfox poach Motorola man for business development role

UK challenger manufacturer Wileyfox has poached Richard Jenkins from rivals Motorola.

Jenkins, who will take on the role of VP business development for Europe, joins his former boss Nick Muir who is the CEO of Wileyfox. The new brand launched in the summer and has generating a significant amount of attention in its low cost handsets which use the Cyanogen operating system.

At Motorola Jenkins was responsible for managing the manufacturer’s relationships with EE, O2 and Three as well as with retailers Dixons Carphone and John Lewis. It will be interesting to see whether Jenkins leverages his relationships with these businesses in his role at Wileyfox. At present, the manufacturer’s products are distributed exclusively through Exertis.

Kicked up a storm

Revealing his reasons for leaving the manufacturer Jenkins said that prospect of working for one of the most exciting new brands was too good to turn down, he said: ‘When Wileyfox launched last year, it kicked up a bit of a storm. A ballsy brand, an interesting strategy and great handsets that received fantastic reviews. I wasn’t looking to leave Motorola and then I got the call and jumped at the chance’.
