Last year’s Power 50 Person of the Year Sebastian James has described what it meant to top the definitive list of the industry’s most influential figures.

The Dixons Carphone CEO was speaking to Mobile as the 2016 list was launched. This year’s edition is set to be even more exciting with so much change in the industry. We’ve kicked things off with a look at those who departed from their roles in the past year.

Describing his feelings at being named the Person of the Year James said he was delighted with the accolade: ‘I was delighted to top the list for the Dixons Carphone team last year. As a relative newcomer to the mobile market, it was particularly flattering to be recognised by a key voice within our industry and testament to the fantastic Carphone Warehouse brand my colleagues have built and our customers love.

‘2015 was a monumental year for our business; successfully merging two retailers, launching iD our MVNO and positioning ourselves for future growth in the Connected World. We are lucky to work in an industry that is integral to people’s lives, where the customer’s appetite for beautiful, convenient and authentically useful technology is ever increasing - we can’t wait to see what 2016 brings!’

Mobile Power 50

Every year the Mobile Power 50 decides the most influential individuals in the UK’s most exciting industry. From this list the Person of the Year award is decided at present at the Mobile Industry Awards. Now in its 6th edition the prize has been claimed by a host of colourful characters from this dynamic sector. This year there is even more drama and intrigue: Takeovers in the network space, an intensifying battle between manufacturers for consumer attention and a B2B market growing beyond all expectations are all pushing the skills of those in charge to the limit.

The competition is set to expand even further this time around and engage even more with the mobile market. We’re asking the industry to endorse its most powerful figures based on their leader’s skills and vote in head to head battles to decide crucial ranking positions. The process with monthly editorial updates giving our readers the chance to have their say as the 2016 list takes shape.
