Vodafone Irish TV service launch hints at what the UK can expect

Vodafone’s launch of an Irish TV service could offer some insight into what form its UK service will take.

The network has stated that it will start offering UK customers TV in this quarter and the new Irish service offers an idea of what that might look like.

Vodafone has secured content agreements with Netflix, Sky and BT, and will also offer a TV Anywhere app to its Irish customers. The package also offers a set top box with catch up and record functions.

BT’s presence

The announcement that the deal for BT to buy network operator EE was given approval by the Competition and Market’s Authority has upped the stakes for the telecoms giants’ rivals. Being able to offer four services has long been considered essential as the UK market continues to change.

Vodafone has always maintained a strong interest in television and content services. The brand had long standing ties with Sky linking 4G with the TV giant’s premium content and trialling the sale of mobile services to the brand’s customers.
