MWC 2016: Facebook's Zuckerberg speaks out on Samsung's VR partnership

Mark Zuckerberg has spoken out on Facebook's VR partnership with Samsung.

The Facebook CEO made his comments at Mobile World Congress, joining Samsung in Barcelona for the launch of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. The manufacturer announced that it's latest handsets would look to target the VR market, claiming that experiences around the smartphone will be a key differentiator

This is not the first time Samsung has set its sights on VR, after partnering with Oculus VR for the launch of its Gear VR headset. Facebook acquired Oculus VR in 2014 and Zuckerberg explained that it is now extending its collaboration with Samsung.

Zuckerberg said: 'I’ve always been interested in the idea of virtual reality and this partnership between Samsung and Facebook allows us to bring this technology further. VR is the next platform where people can create what they want. It will change the way they live, work and communicate.

'That’s why Facebook is investing so much in VR from the very beginning. Gear VR is by far the best mobile VR experience. Samsung is the only company in the world that can deliver a comfortable VR experience. It can ship Gear VR quickly and affordably. We worked with Samsung to make the Gear VR experience affordable. We refined the hardware to make it a $99 price. We’ve been working to make Facebook the best platform for 360 video.'
