Huawei appoints new head of Western Europe

Huawei has appointed a new president of its Western Europe Consumer Business Group in a bid to develop its premium brand image in the region.

Walter Ji (pictured) will take on the top job, building on 14 years’ experience at the manufacturer having previously worked as Western Europe VP and CEO of the Carrier Network Business Group in the region.

Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, described Western Europe as one of the manufacturer’s ‘key markets’. He explained that Ji will help to increase market share and develop consumer's trust and perception of the brand.

Newly appointed Ji said: ‘With Huawei’s new premium flagship products such as the P- and M-series, the company is continuously striving to improve the user experience. We are glad to see that our brand awareness has already increased significantly over the past few years to over 80% in five countries, and I look forward to building on this success.’

Matebook launch

The appointment comes in the same week that Huawei took its first steps into the business PC market with the launch of the Matebook. Unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Congress, Huawei explained the 2-in-1 tablet marked ‘a new style of business’ and that much of the thinking behind the new device came from its success in the smartphone space.
