Apple Pay finally adds Barclaycard and Barclays
Barclaycard and Barclays customers will now be able to make Apple Pay payments from smartphones and wearable devices.
Two payment giants had been the most noticeable absentees from the manufacturers list of partners when the service launched last year.
As other partners such as Tesco Bank and TSB were added, it had appeared that Barclays and Barclaycard were reluctant to take part. Particularly after the credit card launched its own range of ‘touch and go’ wearable devices following the Apple Pay UK roll out.
Increasing the footprint
Apple’s recent launch of the SE device targeted at the mid-to low tier of the market has been considered by many as a move to increase the footprint of Apple Pay. The addition of Barclays and Barclaycard as partners will expand yet further the number of potential customers the brand can now attempt to attract.
Speaking at the launch of the service Ashok Vaswani, CEO of Barclays UK, said: ‘We are passionate about helping customers access services and carry out their day to day transactions in the way that suits them. As part of this, we have developed a range of digital innovations that allow people to choose how, when and where they bank and make payments. Adding to the existing choice, from today both Barclays debit and Barclaycard credit card customers can use Apple Pay to make payments with their Apple device across the UK.’
