Tesco Mobile’s customer bases has hit 4.6m, the supermarket’s latest financials have revealed.
Announcing its preliminary results for 2015/2016, Tesco’s MVNO saw continued growth throughout the last year, boosting its customer numbers by 5%. The network has also consistently managed to maintain its number one ranking for customer satisfaction.
Tesco Mobile’s UK play
The news follows significant moves by Tesco Mobile to bolster its position in the UK mobile market.
The MVNO is set to benefit from CK Hutchison’s takeover of O2, with the Three UK owner pledging to give up 30% of its spectrum to boost Tesco Mobile’s network.
Sky and Virgin Media are believed to be promised an equal amount of network capacity, put forward in Hutch’s latest set of remedies designed to ease UK competition concerns. These have been publically criticised by UK regulators and industry bodies.
Hutch also promised to sell O2’s 50% stake in Tesco Mobile to the supermarket’s owners, with the virtual network keen to become an autonomous player. This could spark a major drive from the MVNO to play a greater role in UK mobile.
