Gusto Telecom is planning a major international expansion, claiming there is huge opportunity outside the UK.
Speaking to Mobile, MD Jolyon Bennet explained that the accessories distributor is no longer looking for UK customers after securing a deal in the US as well as a number of European tie-ups.
The MD has previously slammed UK networks for not making accessories a priority, claiming that Vodafone and Three’s retail stores reflect the ‘old fashioned view’ they have of the market. He explained that as hardware costs increase, operators should be looking at accessories as a way to make more money, claiming that there is strong demand outside the UK.
‘We’ve managed to build a significant balance sheet and have got to a position where we are financially very strong,’ he said. ‘We were very much a start-up for first two to three years after launch but we’ve stepped out of that mode. Now it’s about stretching on into the next section which is fast growth and so what we’re doing in the managing team is very aggressively focusing on international expansion.
‘We are sold in France, Phonehouse in Spain, Sweden, we’re done business in Australia and there’s three more countries coming in the pipeline within the next month. We’re finalising the first US deal with a very large retailer. In the UK we’re actually not looking to take on new customers, we’ve got enough. We feel like we’re working with the right ones and that’s how we got our strong growth. It’s our largest market but there’s lots of growth to be had out of the UK.’
