Dealers' Z8 plans
Dealers are gearing up for interest in the Motorola Z8 as they are expecting it to be a big seller, despite a trio of operators not stocking the phone.
The device was available from Vodafone and Phones 4u last week, and is pegged to be Motorola's hero handset for 2007. Phones 4u is offering the phone free online on Vodafone's Family Text 40, 18-month contract with 500 minutes and 3,000 texts, while Vodafone stores are promoting it with £35 tariffs.
The network's Sim-free price is around £350. Dealers can pick it up for around £295 from distribution.
Dealer Hazel Pearson of Transcom Communications said: 'I'm looking to stock it because I have customers waiting for it. I've seen the handset and I know what it's capable of.'
Toks Omitola from Excite Your Mobile is also looking to get the handset in. 'It should be a big seller,' he said. Amjad Akram from Let's Talk added: 'We'll definitely be selling it.'
Distributors 20:20 and Brightstar will stock the Z8 and it will also be available at Carphone Warehouse and O2. Networks T-Mobile, Orange and 3 have not committed to selling the device.
Dealers said the networks' decision not to stock the Z8 won't affect them, as they will be able to get the phone Sim-free.
