Samsung were the big winners in the product categories at this year’s Mobile Industry Awards.
The manufacturer bagged the Best Manufacturer prize receiving praised from the judges for its efforts with partners over the last year. Since mobile boss Conor Pierce took over in March 2015 this has been a clear priority for the UK arm of the global smartphone superpower.
This emphasis appears to be paying dividends with Samsung winning the Best Manufacturer gong for the second year in a row. Last year, Samsung really shook things up with the launch of its form redefining Galaxy S6 edge device, the phone was the runaway winner in the Phone of the Year category.
The impact of the manufacturer’s latest Galaxy S7 edge device was also recognised and won the Hottest New Phone for 2016 crown. Virtual reality has been a major influence on the mobile industry over the last year. In order to acknowledge the growth of this market the award for Best VR Experience was introduced.
A prize won by the Samsung Gear VR for range of content and accessibility. In the other product categories Best Value Phone was won by the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua. Apple scooped the Best Tablet gong with its iPad Pro. Microsoft meanwhile won the Best Business Phone prize for its Lumia 950 XL device.
An impressive candidate across a number of product categories was Huawei. The manufacturer wowed the judges to such an extent that they took the unprecedented step of introducing the Judges Choice-One to Watch award to ‘send a message to the industry’.
