EE’s Mat Sears to manage BT integration in top comms job

EE's Mat Sears will support the network's integration with new owners BT after being promoted to EE's director of comms.

Formerly head of PR and corporate comms at EE for 6 years, Sears confirmed the immediate role change to Mobile, taking over part of the team that exiting brand director Spencer McHugh led.

He explained that his new position will see him broaden out his current job responsibilities to include integrating the EE team with BT, as well as managing sponsorship deals and social communications. He said: ‘I will be making sure there is a smooth transition of EE into BT from an employee perspective as EE becomes part of the BT story, as well as continuing to push the reputational development of the EE brand as we push 4G further and further across the UK'

The announcement follows steps taken by the newly combined BT/EE to merge different areas of the business. EE announced this week that it would be closing down its HQ to move in with BT, while there has already been a crossover of services with EE customers soon able to view BT Sports.
