Alcatel get VR ready with Google team up
Alcatel has announced it will launch a smartphone that is virtual reality (VR) ready.
The manufacturer has partnered with Google to launch the device, which will support the US tech giant’s Android VR platform Daydream (pictured). The manufacturer said the platform would offer an immersive audio experience with a range of premium games and entertainment content
The device, due to be released in the first half of 2017, marks Alcatel’s first steps into the VR arena as the brand continues to ramp up its consumer offering. The manufacturer recently launched its first major UK campaign with UK boss William Paterson recently telling Mobile the time is right for Alcatel to become more consumer focused.
He said: ‘We’ve got fantastic distribution across so many channels and now is the right time be speaking to the consumer more.’
Alcatel’s VR announcement follows hot on the heels of Vodafone’s entrance into VR with the recent launch of its own branded headset. However while the network told Mobile it has no plans to expand its VR range, Alcatel explained it will continue to build its ecosystem, investing in hardware, content and user experience.
