Samsung has launched a UK wide marketing campaign to take the UK’s first VR music video to a number of festivals this summer.
The manufacturer has partnered with Biffy Clyro to create the immersive experience, which will enable fans to put on a Samsung Gear VR headset and find themselves beside the band and part of the video.
The experience will take place inside a giant hypercube structure, which will be touring a several music festivals across the country. The news sees Samsung follow hot on the heels of Alcatel, who also launched a national VR marketing campaign, targeting major cities across the UK with its VR demos.
Samsung first unveiled its VR headset at this year’s Mobile World Congress, revealing plans to use its latest smartphones to target the VR market. At the time, the manufacturer said that experiences around the mobile phone would be a key differentiator.
Ross Cairns, Creative Director at Samsung commented on the new music video experience: ‘This project was born out of a desire to bring the best parts of live music to an audience so people can feel closer to the band than ever before. Biffy were the perfect partners for this.
‘From inception we focussed on marrying music and technology to appear effortlessly synchronised. We’re delighted to bring the wonders of virtual reality to a generation of music fans in this way and demonstrate how we are empowering people to use technology in a way that allow them to experience the extraordinary. As a brand, we will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible, merging virtual reality with the real world.’
