Three (and a half) new handsets
Nokia unveiled three new handsets, all in keeping with the multimedia flavour of the day: the 5310, the 5610 and the N81, as well as a new N95.
The big launch was the 8GB N81 – the first phone equipped with the Nokia music store. The device comes with a new interface, new search functions and, tellingly, it has an iPod-esque navi-wheel.
The new N95 has a bigger screen (2.8 inch), more memory (8GB) and is now in black. Nokia claimed 'virtually all' existing N95 users were using the maps feature and 'an increasing number are using the navigation'. The manufacturer expects this to accelerate with the bigger screen on the new version.
Nokia has revealed two new, cheaper music phones designed to work with the music store. The 5310 is a bar phone, while the 5610 is a slider. Both are mid-range devices heavily geared towards music and Nokia claimed it has made improvements to the batteries, so the phones are more credible music players.
