Carphone Warehouse’s MVNO, ID has launch of their “Cheaper than a Freddo” £6 per month Alcatel Pixi 4 tariff, making it the cheapest handset inclusive 4G deal.
The high street retailer’s announcement pushes Tesco Mobile’s £7.50 Pixi 4 deal into second place, though Tesco Mobile’s does include double the data.
ID’s tariff is part of their ShockProof plan range, meaning bills are capped, and includes 250MB of data, 150 minutes and 5,000 texts.
It works out as 20p per day which Carphone Warehouse helpfully compared to everyday costs such as a Freddo, filling a bathtub and a train station loo stop.
The Alcatel handset offered retails for around £30 and features 8GB internal storage and a 5MP front camera. The Chinese manufacturer has increased its marketshare throughout 2016 and represented 9.7% of handset sales in August.
John Coleman, director of Pay Monthly at Carphone Warehouse said, “4G for just 20p a day is quite remarkable when you think the first 4G tariff was around £31 a month three years ago and we’ve created a 4G handset and tariff combination that’s a fifth of that cost, the cheapest we’ve ever had.”
