O2 teams with Outkast
O2 users in the UK will be able to download Outkast’s new video ‘Morris Brown’ one week before it is shown anywhere else.
The deal comes out of O2’s partnership with Sony BMG, which now covers full music and video downloads in addition to mobile ringtones. The operator will soon begin offering full-track downloads from Sony BMG’s catalogue, including artists such as Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Elvis Presley. Customers will also be able to download tracks from Outkast’s new album when it launches in August.
The deal is a potential boon for O2, which hopes access to a wider range of full-track download will encourage more users to visit its O2 Active web portal. It is planning a revamp of its music service for later in the year to allow downloads to both home computers and mobile phones.
